Thank You

1. to Lesley for hosting me overnite and inviting Judy and Penny to come with us for dinner, and to Dave for sharing his honey, jam, and tomatoes.

2. to friends and family that sent birthday greetings - I appreciate every card, email card, Facebook greeting, etc.

3. to Lou Ann & Dennis for hosting me overnite (twice), for letting me ride with them to Chautauqua, and for taking me to the famous MCL for supper.

4. to Mary Beth & Terry for inviting me to Chautauqua and a whole week of fun.

Now it is time to get back to quilting and stitching and knitting. (I took projects with me on vacation but hardly touched a thing. Sigh.)

Applique round.......

Today I finished the fourth round - or applique round - of the Round Robin patriotic quilt that Lindsay and I are doing. It was her suggestion to add words as my applique and I really liked the idea. I chose words from the hymn, My Country, 'Tis of Thee - from every mountainside let freedom ring. I also added some gold stars to bring that aspect from the center on out.

Today I am grateful, as I am every day, for the freedom that we enjoy in this country.

Flower identification

Not being a gardener, I usually identify flowers by color. I can identify a tulip, a rose, and a daisy, but beyond that I resort to "that blue flower" or "that pink fluffy flower". Now I know that the yellow flowers in this picture are Marigolds, but what is the orange flower? Is it a Marigold too?

Last year a dear friend from church died and her children passed out flower seeds at the memorial service. I thought they were Marigold seeds. I planted the seeds and this beautiful orange flower has appeared. Can a Marigold be orange?

Round Robin from Lindsay

The Round Robin quilt from Lindsay is in my possession now. She did the red and white checkerboard border and now my challenge is to do the applique round on this quilt. What would you do?

I know exactly what I am going to do and have everything cut out ready to sew. It is going to require some precision work, so after making my decisions, cutting my fabric and laying it all out, I decided to quit for today. I need to be nice and fresh when I begin to sew. NO mistakes. Oh my, is that possible?

Today I am very grateful for air conditioning. It is hot and humid here - not my kind of weather. I would actually sacrifice buying fabric for the cost of running air conditioning. I almost - not quite - would sacrifice peanut butter for air conditioning. Let's go over that again - #1 is peanut butter, #2 is air conditioning, #3 is fabric. Those are my priorities. And because I am a woman, I reserve the right to change that list at whim.

Garden yield

This is the first year I have had a proper garden with flowers. Not only does it look nice, I can also cut some flowers to have in my home.
